An Enchanted New Year at Enchanted Rock

Happy 2017! After taking day 1 to recoup from our late night shindigs we hit the new year hard with a trip to Fredricksburg and Enchanted Rock. The boys have been here on a happy hike before but for Lillie and I we were "taking back the rock". We had been here only once before in the summer of 2005. August precisely. Exactly when no one in their right minds wants to come here because it is so blazing hot. But we went. We picnicked. We stayed in the shade and away from the rock. It was time to take it back.
Apparently January IS the season for hiking enchanted rock and the park fills up quickly. When we arrived it was filled to capacity and wouldn't open again for another couple of hours so we trucked ourselves back to the town to see some quaint Christmas decorations, enjoy our picnic lunch, and sample some local ice cream (yum!)
This larger than life German Nativity Candle Pyramid was breathtaking in person!

Oh how I love little towns that are still allowed to display Nativities

We finally made it! We had to wait in a long line of traffic to get in but it was totally worth it! The weather was absolutely beautiful and we all enjoyed the hike. Pictures don't do it justice and it truly is an enchanted place.
Isaac did really well!

Happy 2017 everyone! I can't wait to see what this year holds in store for the Doolittles!
