Columbus Day - Japanese Tea Gardens

Well, we had originally planned to spend the entire Columbus day weekend in DFW. But dad had to go back to work last minute on Monday so we had an entire day off and nothing to fill it with. What to do... what to do... let's explore our city!
I have been to the Japanese Tea Gardens several times but the kiddos never have. As a bonus I had just heard an awesome NPR interview discussing the history of this place so I was able to tell the kids a lot of cool facts. It was stinking hot, but that was remedied by yummy popsicles from the on site tea room. I love spending days off from school with these guys!
So fun (learned from NPR) fact: after WWII they were renamed the Chinese Tea Gardens until the 60's when the name was changed back. This sign is the only remaining artifact from that era.

The kids loved the coi, G especially and they had a great time reaching in and petting them.

Size-y... a good sport as always!

We probably spent a good 30 minutes here while the kids rock climbed this area.
(it was definitely taller than what this picture shows)
